Baby naming/baptism/christening/blessing? Which suits best?
My baby is due this summer and my husband and I are looking for a way to celebrate our new arrival and welcome him/her to the world. Neither of us are particularly religious so I feel uneasy about a baptism or christening, I would rather let the child make that decision when he/she is old enough to understand it. What could we do instead? Any ideas, stories etc would really be appreciated. We have never been to a blessing or naming day. Thanks!
Have a ‘Welcome to the World’ party. My friend had one of these for her baby as neither of them were religious. It was just like a baptism party without the church service first! The baby was introduced to family and friends, who bought cards and gifts and the couples best friends promised to love, help and guide the baby just like godparents would but without the religious overtones. The baby girl was dressed up for the occasion and a photographer took pictures of her with different groups of family and friends plus an official ‘Welcome to the World’ portrait which is beautiful!
It was a beautiful idea which translated into a lovely day for everyone!
