How would you punish a toddler when the bad behavior happened in a difficult place?
For example, getting in the car seat to go somewhere that you have to go…or you just sat them in the tub and you havent washed them yet? You can’t exactly put them in “time out” in these situations. I’m not going to go back inside the house if we have to be somewhere so don’t suggest that. This is when my toddler acts up the most is when he’s being put in the car seat..he will slap me and pull my hair.
He slaps you in the face and pulls your hair? Guess what, the little man needs more than a time out. A pop on the bottom never did any harm.
Doesn’t sound like time outs would work in those situations anyway, even if you were able to use them at that time.
Tell him beforehand that you are leaving and that he needs to be good in the car. Let him climb in the seat himself, if he can and maybe if you let him buckle himself he’ll be more willing to get in his seat. But if all else fails and he still gets violent with you, he needs to be disciplined.
