Ferret fur types and textures?
I have two (roughly) six month old female ferrets, Moxie and Sophie. Moxie is a sable with a slightly rough and thicker textured fur. Sophie is sliver (white, black, and grey) colored with soft, silky feeling fur. I was wondering why there is such a difference in the feeling of there fur. Is there something that varies the ferret’s fur types? Any explanations would be great! Thanks.
As previously stated, this is most likely due to genetics.
There are variations in ferret body types as well. Some ferrets are slender and skinny, having the “whippet” body type. Other ferrets have the “bulldog” body type and are stocky and thicker.
From my experience, my sable ferrets are mostly whippets and have coarser fur. On the other hand, my light colored ferrets are usually the bulldog type and have soft, thick fur. Just an observation
