What shore excursions should I take?
In June 2010, I’m taking my kids (twin boys – 9 years old) on a Western Caribbean cruise. Ports of call are Cozumel, Grand Cayman & Ocho Rios. I need some ideas on which excursions will not only be fun for my kids but also relaxing for me (if that’s possible – LOL). Any suggestions/input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Grand Cayman has 7 mile beach. You have to pay to get onto the beach but it is absolutely beautiful. The water is crystal clear and you can see 50 feet down to the corals/rocks below. My family went and we caught site of a pod of sea turtles and it was one of the most unforgetable moments in my life (we rented jet skis).
Ocho Rios has a great tour of fern gully that I think you’d enjoy because it’s low impact but considering you have two 9 yo boys I’d say take them to Dunn’s Falls River. It’s a natural waterfall that’s been enhanced by humans. You walk up the falls (I think it’s about 800 ft) but it is a kid friendly excursion. You walk from the beach thru the falls to the top. All the while deciding to walk in the sun, in the shade or to stop and take a dip in the natural pools (pooling of the falls).
Enjoy. And make sure to bring water shoes for the entire trip if you plan on getting in the waters.
