If a hair salon has a dressing room, and they hand me a smock-thing, what do I change into/out of?
I’m going to get my hair cut tomorrow, and it’s relatively fancy-ish, I think. Last time I went there, they handed me a robe- like thing, but thin, and light. They then pointed to a dressing room.
When I use the dressing room, what articles of clothing do I put on/ take off?
Because the salon won’t use any kind of cape or covering for you when you are getting your hair done, and since you don’t want to get your own clothes ruined with hair clippings or product, they ask you to remove some of your own clothing and then put on the gown. You don’t want a lot of bulk from a turtleneck sweater when getting your hair cut!! (and some do wear them into a salon!)
You would remove as much as you feel comfortable doing. Some remove all, some only the external clothes. It depends on what you want. It’s true that some of these gowns are too small (they should come in a couple of sizes), some have a front (or back) opening, some are pull-over types. You may ask if they have a larger/smaller size, or with a different type of closing. The stylists have seen all kinds of things, and it doesn’t matter. They are only interested in doing the best job on you, and don’t need to be fighting with clothing that is getting in the way. It’s better for all concerned. You may feel awkward at first, but you will get used to it.
