What’s the value of a Remington Mod.1889, 16ga, dbl barrel shotgun, grade 3?
I have one of these Rem. 1889 shotguns but I have no idea of the value. I have made a definite ID on it. It shows wear but is in good condition. The “rabbit ear” hammers are in excellent cond., the engraving is faded but visible, the stock is distressed but nothing major.
I do not know that gun.
Its hard to say. Usually when it shows much wear, that really knocks the value to 10-15% unless it is very rare.
Being grade 3 is a plus.
16 ga is a plus.
Rabbit ears is probably a minus.
Its possible it has damascus twist barrels- if so- do not attempt to shoot it.
Don’t try to repair it or clean it up- until someone who knows what it is can advise. If its very valuable- you can hurt the value. If its not- you can’t.
I used to get a book called “Gun Trader’s Guide”- a real thick paperback. It listed nearly every gun and their approximate values. You may can find that book. I believe there is another book called “Blue Book of Gun Values”- or something like that.
