Can you help with writing a yard sale ad?
We are planing a yard sale for this weekend. I need help in writing an ad for the news paper to get people to come to it! This is what we are selling. Baby girl clothes, Baby items, a bed frame, Pet Supplies ( 75% off) and other odds and ends. Any ideas or suggestions would be great to help me get people to come ( we live in the country- 1/2 hour out of town) and buy. Also Should the yard sale only be on Saturday or should it be for the whole weekend? What times should we have it? Thanks so much!

For your newspaper ad be concise and to the point:
“YARD SALE: [address]; [day]; [time].
optional: [baby stuff, pets, etc.].
Sinse you live out of town, you may want to include a mobile/phone number for questions on directions.
Note: you don’t want to clutter up the ad; seasoned garage salers will get the drift, and you’ll save money too as each words costs in an ad.
If you’re in the sticks, advertisement is paramount…
*On the road advertise with big, easily readable signs and, again, straight to the point (concider that it is usually read from a moving car and you don’t have time to read all that small print while driving):
“YARD SALE TODAY [month/days], [BIG arrow in appropriate direction]. optional:[kids, pets, etc.].
*Place signs at eye level at important intersections in town leading to your house; if it’s quite a ways away, place more signs along the road to encourage g. salers to persevere.
*Also, having all your signs look alike (same style writing on same size and same color paper) helps keep your g.salers on the right track and not be side-tracked by another g. sale sign.
*Lamenate your signs in case it rains, as computer ink runs when wet. Actually, I advise using heavy poster board and a thick permanent Sharpie marking pen.
*advertise at the local shops, grocery store, church, community center, library…
*run ad on local radio station (if it’s a really small town with a radio station, this is usually free).
*run an ad on Craigs List
You live outside town, so run your sale Saturday AND Sunday (maybe even Friday, AND Monday too, if it’s a holiday in your area like it is where I live). This gives folks a chance to make it out to your sale.
usually, between 9am to 6pm is a good time to have a garage sale.
Also, make sure you have a helper to run errands (like make change) and man the ship when you need a break.
