Should I be contemplating life together with a hard-core feminist?

I’ve been with my partner for 1.5 years, we live together, but are from different countries (she Sweden, me NZ), and its time for me to decide whether to stay or not. I’m struggling because she has extreme views (as a feminist), and has difficulty accepting views different from her own. I also am pro-equality (in every sense), otherwise things wouldn’t have worked thus far. However, the extreme nature of her views makes me a little uncomfortable. While she doesn’t hate men, she has difficulty relating to them, and once remarked that if there weren’t any men around like me, she might have to become a lesbian. I agree with her on many equality issues, but don’t let them get to me. I want kids one day and to bring them up in a household that is fair and equal (in every sense), but I don’t want to obsess. She storms out of baby-clothing stores if there’s any partition into blue and pink. Sweden is progressive in gender issues, but that doesn’t mean kids can’t grow up fine in other places.

I think that you should talk to her about your ideas. Make sure that you tell her that you understand and support her views but tell her that maybe her ideas are too extreme for you and she needs to tone them down. If she doesn’t and you are still caught being undeceive then maybe you shouldn’t stay together. Love is really important in a relationship (obviously) but sometimes that isn’t enough to carry it. You need to make sure she can compromise. That’s what a good relationship is all about. Giving and taking on both sides. If she can’t deal with that then I suggest looking for a new mate.
