Pregnant with 1st baby, How much clothes do I need to have?
I am 20 weeks, just started buying baby stuff. I did alot of reseach on everything but… clothes. How much and what size? Like how many NB outfits and how many 0-3 mo and 3-6 mo and so on? How many nighties? How many onies? A web site would be great if you know of one. Thank you!
I was hoping to know now cuz all the summer stuff is on sale and the baby is due in April.
I know not to buy very many nb but how many is too many?
If you’re having a shower, you may get a lot of clothes. However, if you are like me, I didn’t register for any (I was focused on getting the big stuff), but I still did get quite a few things. I did, however, get quite a lot upon the birth and after from family and friends. However you get them, don’t wash and hang right away. Keep the tags on until baby comes so that you can exchange just in case baby doesn’t fit!
This is a tough one because your baby may be a preemie (like mine) and really need all those newborn and 0-3 month sizes OR he/she may be big and go right into 3-6 month sizes. Regardless, babies grow FAST. Mine has gone through piles and piles of clothes and he is only 4 months old!
That said, exchanging with friends and family is a great idea! I also agree with an earlier post about ebay and garage sales.
My suggestion are the sleep gowns and sleep sacks–you can’t get enough of them and they usually cover sizes from birth up to six months with one gown/sack. The sacks were my favorite. The gowns can at times ride up the baby once he/she starts squirming more.
Onsies, get a mix of sizes. I would go for more 3-6 rather than 0-3 since he/she will grow so fast (mine was only in his for a few weeks and he was a preemie!). My little one was in the onsies through the first couple months–it was all he wore and it was great since it was so hot. Not sure where you live, but I’m guessing by the time the baby comes the weather will be warmer.
As for outfits, you don’t need a lot when they are first born, maybe a few easy to put on/take off ones. I like the ones that I can button up the front. He hates having things go over his head!
Finally, you very well may get a lot of clothes upon baby’s birth, so there may be no need to go crazy on buying clothes.
And a word of advice, get The Happiest Baby on the Block. It was a lifesaver for me and my husband. There are tips and strategies that work wonders at keeping baby happy and helping him/her sleep and stay calm. It is wonderful.
Good luck and congratulations! I’m in my fourth month (today!) of being a new mom! It is challenging, but wonderful!
