Baby’s first birthday..how to ask for…?

My son’s 1st birthday is around the corner and we would like to ask our friends and family that are coming to his party for savings bonds instead of toys, clothes, etc. We really don’t need any of that stuff and it would just clutter up our home, but we would like to have something set aside for him in the years to come.
Has anyone asked for this before? How would I go about doing it so I don’t seem rude or tactless? Should I put it on the invitations, and how should I write it?
Thank you!!
Thank you for your honest answers, and I am only inviting our close immediate family and a few best friends that I know (and know me) very well.

On the invitations or on a small insert you could put

“In leiu of gifts we ask for savings bonds for (childs name) future.”

If put politely it shouldn’t seem rude or tactless. You could also ask for gift cards which while they’re not the same you could use or save for something bigger your son might want or need. A bigger type of toy that would be expensive for one person to get alone or save for maybe summer clothes since that will be soon. Then at least you have the money for clothes when that time comes around.
