Baby Checklist… what are the essentials..?
I am 28 weeks pregnant, but have a high risk pregnancy and could delivery anytime. I am hoping to get the nursery and everything ready soon so that I don’t have to worry about that later.
I want some help figuring out the essential that I will need for the baby. I know obvious things like a crib and bedding, clothes, ect. But what I want to know is how many sleepers will I need for the newborn stages, how many diapers, receiving blankets, towels, face clothes, ect.

Im going to start by stating that every baby and every mommy is different. my baby is 11 weeks old and im still trying to get the just of things.
- The first week i needed a night time nursing bra (wireless and comfy) because i could no longer sleep with out a bra or id leak all over my clothes.
- Pads enough for about 3 a day for 6 weeks or until you stop having a heavy discharge. then panty liners.
- Nursing pads, or breast cups. When you buy these keep trying different ones to find which ones work best for you and your flow.
- Some advil, for cramping and swelling.
For baby i would suggest you have:
- 2 sleepers for each day that you dont do laundry and twice as much under shirt onesies. (10 for a week of no laundry)
- When my milk came in i used a lot of wash clothes because the milk would squirt all over and on his face so i needed to clean it up often. a pack of 10 works well.
- I’d say if you do laundry once a week then you dont need many receiving blankets. Maybe 5 or 6. i change them after he has a bath.
- 2-4 LARGE hooded towels. theres no point in buying the new born towels because they grow out of them and you just need to go out and buy more again.
and diapers: disposables are about 8-10 every 24 hours if your baby is healthy. ( i liked the newborn pampers baby soft swaddlers because they were really soft and they had a line so you could tell if they were wet or not.
- For newborn size i would say about 100-120 in newborn size.
- I received a box of 216 diapers, size 1 and they lasted until i needed to switch to size 2.
- One or two traveling changing mats.
- 3 or so nursing covers (if you plan to nurse in public or around others)
- 4-5 burp bibs
- a few pairs of hand covers (you can use socks). cause their nails get really sharp and theyre so small and hard to file the first week.
- 3-5 hats. ( just enough so you can put a clean one after bath time)
i would also suggest going to a Cosco and buying a huge supply of wipes because you will forever need those until your baby is into undies. one or two traveling changing mats. 3 or so nursing covers (if you plan to nurse in public or around others)
a thermometer, vaseline (bring this to the hospital if put on after cleaning it makes cleaning the first really sticky poops off next time easier), baby oil to help dry scalps.
i bet there are things I didnt mention that you will soon notice you need.
